چکیده

This paper presents a comparative analysis of linear and mixed models for short-term forecasting of a real data series with a high percentage of missing data. Data are the series of signi®cant wave heights registered at regular periods of three hours by a buoy placed in the Bay of Biscay. The series is interpolated with a linear predictor which minimizes the forecast mean square error. The linear models are seasonal ARIMA models and the mixed models have a linear component and a non-linear seasonal component. The non-linear component is estimated by a non-parametric regression of data versus time. Short-term forecasts, no more than two days ahead, are of interest because they can be used by the port authorities to notify the ̄eet. Several models are ®tted and compared by their forecasting behaviour. Copyright # 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

Investigating the Amount of Forces Caused by Solitary Waves on Coastal Walls Using OpenFOAM Software

Coastal walls (dyke) are one of the methods of protecting the coast against coastal erosion and destructive forces of waves. The purpose of this study is to simulate the wave collision with the coastal dyke and compare the results with the laboratory model. Open FOAM open source software and K-ω SST turbulence model were used to simulate the amount of wave consumed by the coastal dyke. Taking i...

Wave Height Forecasting Using Cascade Correlation Neural Network

Forecasting of wave height is necessary in a large number of ocean coastal activities. Recently, neural networks are used for prediction and approximation of wave heights in sea and ocean due to their great convergence rate. In this paper a cascade correlation neural network is used for prediction of wave heights at given times due to the useful capability of this network for prediction and app...

Rapid forecasting of tsunami runup heights from 2-D numerical simulations

We propose a method to compute tsunami runup heights that is based on an integration of numerical, 2-D shallow-water modelling and an analytical, 1-D long-wave runup theory. This approach provides a faster forecast of tsunami runup heights than a complicated coastal inundation model. Through simulations of potential tsunami scenarios, this approach can also be applied to long-term tsunami predi...

Evaluating the results of Hormuz strait wave simulations using WAVEWATCH-III and MIKE21-SW

In this study, the capabilities of WAWEWATCH-III and MIKE21-SW for predicting the characteristics ofwind-generated waves in Hormuz Strait are evaluated. The numerical models have been set up using Input data including GFS wind with 5° spatial resolution and 6 hours time intervals, along with the ETOPO1 bathymetry data with 2 arc-minute spatial resolutions. The results of the two model simulatio...
